This week has been a little slower than normal. On Wednesday though we had a small snow shower, ended up looking more like icing sugar on the hill tops but nothing like we have had before. Although, a lot of the time, people seem to panic and go overboard to the point you think we are about to enter another ice age....! What was amusing was my friend was cooking and accidently set the fire alarm off which then resulted in my roommate stood outside the dorms in only a towel as she was in the shower at the time. We all had to go outside but the rest of us were fully clothed, dry and warm.
Thursday was Philanthropy day here at Juniata where you can donate blood and possibly other bodily fluids, i'm not sure exactly. i for one do not enjoy needles so i steered clear of that area.
Friday was Mimi’s time yet again, it appears to be a little routine of ours for Friday nights. We got food which was delightful as always, home cut chips! Not fries! Chips! It was like a little basket of heaven.
Saturday I donated my time and skills to cook Spanish food for 200 people. I regret this now after chopping up 25 onions and 25 bulbs of garlic as the smell of garlic is still on my hands. I should probably explain why I was cooking Spanish food. Every year my RA Lisa organises Fiesta Latina which is just a Spanish night, food, entertainment and a whole host of Spanish oriented things. I didn’t attend the event myself as I had been cooking all afternoon and simply wanted to get rid of the garlic smell! To my knowledge the event was a huge success and everyone had a fabulous time.
Sunday- the day of rest- not here at Juniata; Sunday is simply work work work for the students here and Saturday is typically their day of rest. For this week, and this week only, I have a slight dip in my work load. Therefore I have taken the liberty of getting ahead of myself AKA being a nerd and getting things done ahead of time but in the long run it should benefit me greatly. I should also point out that it was Mothers Day in England and therefore i surprised my mum with ....no not a visit...but flowers. Apparently i have good taste as they made her smile. The phone call to England probably cost more than the flowers!
Now Monday, I should have known the day wasn’t going to be fantastic as when walking to breakfast at 8am a squirrel threw a nut at me. As mum pointed out, its better than i was attacked by a nut than a gun. What is worse is that the squirrel looked fairly pleased with itself. I on the other hand was less amused at the time. It’s hard to stay mad at a squirrel as they are so cute and fluffy. I have heard on the grapevine that Peanut M&Ms go down well with the squirrel crowd but not the blue ones.
By Monday afternoon I came in dropped some things off and had to go out for a meeting. I was gone for less than 30 minutes and came back to find my floor moving. Swarms of ants had moved in so Pest Control had to be called out for the second time this semester to my room to deal with the situation. On our door it now reads: Attention all Critters- NO ROOM AT THE INN! First it was Alejandro (the centipede from previous posts) and now the ants. I wouldn’t mind a squirrel or a mountain Lion but not bugs or snakes for that matter!
Tuesday my Eastenders addiction had gone up a level. I decided it was easiest to view it over webcam on MSN from home whilst my mum was watching it. It hurt my eyes after a while but saved me the bother of trying to get Iplayer to work here!
That’s all for now folks. Same time next week?
