I am still amazed by how many Americans know and have been to Whitby; there were people in Lincoln who didn't know where it was but here the Americans love the town.
The snow is still pretty bad here but I am relying on Punxsutawney Phil's prediction of an early spring for 2011- i really hope that little fella is correct. I do feel sorry for him waking up and having thousands of people staring at him there's no wonder he runs back into his little hole. I was most surprised when i got an email telling me Punxsutawney Phil is now following me on Twitter. Not only can he predict weather- something humans haven't yet grasped but he can use Twitter!
On Saturday i felt like i could audition for ITV's Dancing on Ice due to the amount of ice here right now as well as having my mini suitcase with me- for those who watch Dancing on Ice you'll understand "prop week". My suitcase was my prop for Saturday. As amusing as it was I really hope the ice goes soon.
Saturday night was most interesting at about 2am my room mate and I encountered a little 100 legged friend in our room. He kind of appeared out of no where as if he used a parachute to come in so we aren't sure how he arrived. Alejandro is now deceased but we were not 100% certain if he had any friends or family. By Monday we had realised that Alejandro did in fact have family, his wife Selena made an appearance and naturally died soon after. After googling we discovered they can bite and be poisonous which is our concern mostly but they don't kill. Needless to say Tuesday morning an exterminator came and sorted out our little problem.
As i said before i am a part of Global Village and we are hosting events throughout the semester. For our small one we have decided on an international game night with international treats, for our involvement on campus we are joining forces with the Club international and Spanish club to host Fiesta Latino. For our field trip which is still undecided we have narrowed it down to a number of options.
- Medieval Times/Renaissance Fair
- Belleview Sales
- Hibachi
- Trip to see the Amish
- Murder Mystery Dinner
Personally my top choice is the Murder Mystery Dinner followed by the Medieval Times/Renaissance Fair and the trip to see the Amish. The Global Village is a new idea to Juniata and so far seems to be working out really well, people are getting involved and the field trips are fully funded too which encourages people to join in. I believe next year they are having a Spanish house as well as Global Village.
