Week 3

The time here seems to be going rather quickly! I wish it would slow down so much as the faster the time goes the sooner i shall be back at Lincoln- the prospect of being back in Lincoln isn't a nice thought.

So last week the internationals took a trip into town and we had dinner and saw a movie- $4 for a movie!. I was over the moon it was so cheap. We saw The Dilemma- which by the way I would recommend. The cinema is so small but kind of cute. In a way it looks like someone's house but they have 5 screens and all the latest movies so it's all good. What was even better was we had the cinema to ourselves however, if we made a mess it would have been obvious as to who it was. The international community are really strong and very good friends with each other as well as having American friends too.

The dorm i am in- which thankfully has no bunk beds! is called the "Global Village" so what that means is once every two weeks we all get together cook and have dinner together and try different foods from around the world. The best bit is meeting everyone on your floor and getting to know everyone. Until last Thursday which was our first dinner i hadn't really met many from my floor yet but this was an excellent chance to see everyone and they are all such lovely people and so friendly.

Team international met up again on Saturday to head down for dinner and a quiz night at the Standing Stone Coffee Company. We split into two teams of 4 and my team was called Team fabulous which soon became team not-so fabulous after a devastating result. However, i will add we did not come last but nor did we win. How were we to know that Winnie the Poohs real name was Edward Bear? Our guess was Oprah Winfrey which unfortunately was not the correct answer. When we first arrived it was only the internationals around on campus and in the town pretty much and we kept getting told that it will pick up. For a while we doubted it but they were right the town is a lot better now all the students are back and classes are in session. The Standing Stone is the heart of the Juniata community really as 9/10 when you go in there it is full of students plus there are board games in there if you just want to chill out but a certain someone didn't know that Mississippi was a state which i will never forget (no! it wasn't me).

So by Monday in classes we kept getting told odd things about Wednesday and how the professors may not be in class and we were confused as to why. As it turned out there was a huge storm stretching 2000 miles on its way and the governor of the area had declared a state of emergency regarding the weather. There was 75% of a power cut and CNN had called it the "life-threatening storm" which reminded me of the Vicar of Dibley with their "Great Storm". We didn't care because this meant we had a snow day! I was however, slightly disappointed when i woke up to look outside to find no change whatsoever in the weather....
